Your Treatment Journey

Everything you need to know — from your first enquiry through to a full and comfortable recovery.

What to Expect at Every Step

Toenail surgery can feel daunting if you've never had it before. Natalie's priority is to make every patient feel informed, comfortable and confident throughout the entire process — from the first phone call to the final follow-up appointment.

The Six Stages of Your Treatment

1

Enquiry & Initial Contact

Get in touch via the enquiry form, email or telephone. Natalie will respond to advise whether surgery is likely to be appropriate and arrange your appointment. Many patients come to Natalie after waiting months for an NHS referral — private treatment at FeetFirst Surgery is typically available much sooner.

2

Clinical Assessment

Natalie will perform a thorough clinical assessment of the affected toe(s), review your medical history and discuss your symptoms and expectations. She will explain the recommended procedure in plain English, answer all your questions and obtain your informed consent before any treatment proceeds.

3

Local Anaesthetic

Before any surgical work begins, a local anaesthetic injection is carefully administered to fully numb the toe. Once numb, you will feel no pain during the rest of the procedure.

4

The Surgical Procedure

Natalie will carefully remove the affected portion of nail (PNA) or the complete nail (Total Avulsion) using sterile surgical instruments. Where a permanent solution is desired, a chemical treatment (phenol) is applied to the nail matrix to prevent regrowth. The area is then thoroughly irrigated, dressed and bandaged.

5

Immediate Aftercare

Natalie will give guidance on returning to normal activity. You can walk immediately after surgery.

6

Two Follow-Up Appointments Included

Your treatment price includes two dedicated follow-up appointments. These allow Natalie to monitor healing, change dressings, and answer any questions you may have during recovery. Natalie is committed to seeing you all the way through the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Toenail surgery is commonly used to treat ingrowing toenails, chronic nail infections, thickened or deformed nails, and recurring nail conditions that have not responded to conservative treatment.
No — the procedure is performed under local anaesthetic which numbs the toe completely. The only discomfort is a brief sting from the anaesthetic injection itself.
Recovery is generally smooth and complete within six weeks, and with most patients much sooner. Following post-operative care instructions — keeping the area clean and avoiding pressure on the toe — will help ensure a quicker recovery.
It depends on the procedure and whether phenol is applied. If a chemical treatment (phenol) is used to treat the nail matrix, that section will not regrow — providing a permanent solution. Without phenol, the nail will grow back.
Yes — you can walk immediately after the procedure. Rest and elevate your foot for the first 24–48 hours where possible, and wear open-toed or loose footwear for comfort.
As Natalie is HCPC registered, most recognised UK private medical insurers cover surgical podiatry procedures. We recommend confirming cover directly with your insurer prior to treatment.
